There is a growing trend in the internet dating world and it’s called advertising. We see it everywhere. Now this isn’t just an online dating thing as most of the internet is covered with advertising. I don’t really have a problem with it as that’s how television works; cable costs aside, the shows are free to watch. The trade off is watching the commercials, or in the case of an internet dating service provider, viewing the advertisements on the site.
Here’s what I do take issue with. There are internet dating services that charge members a monthly fee. In some cases this fee can exceed $30 a month. These companies are starting to put up advertising on their sites. Some sites like Match made over 200 million dollars last year plus they have ads on their site.
It’s double dipping and if I were a member I would stop the service. I sure don’t need to pay for the privilege of viewing ads.
